Soy wax flakes are a 100% plant‑based, natural wax produced through the hydrogenation of soybean oil. Unlike petroleum‑derived waxes, soy wax is processed into thin, lightweight flakes that melt quickly and allow for easy weighing and handling during production.
Below is a refined breakdown of the qualities, performance characteristics, uses, and handling instructions for container‑grade soy wax flakes.
Quality Specification: Container‑Grade Soy Wax Flakes
This grade of soy wax features a low melting point of 48°C–54°C (118°F–130°F) and is classified as a soft vegetable wax. It is engineered specifically for container applications, where strong adhesion to glass, ceramic, or metal walls is essential.
Because the wax remains slightly pliable once solidified, it cannot maintain structural rigidity on its own and is not suitable for pillar or molded candles unless blended with harder waxes or additives.
Key Features
- 100% natural, renewable soy wax
- Soft container‑grade formulation
- Low melting point for smooth adhesion
- Cleaner burn with reduced soot
- Excellent fragrance binding
- Suitable for jars, tins, melts, and massage candles
Most Suitable Applications
- Jar & Vessel Candles: Ideal for glass containers, tins, ceramic jars, and tealight cups.
- Aromatherapy Wax Melts: Commonly blended with essential or fragrance oils for electric warmers.
- Massage Candles: Melts at a low, skin‑safe temperature and can be enriched with cosmetic oils for topical use
How to Use Soy Wax Flakes
Follow these temperature‑specific steps to achieve a smooth, even surface with minimal sinkholes or cracking.
Step 1: Melt
Place flakes in a double walled heater and heat gently until fully liquefied at 75°C–85°C (167°F–185°F) to break down the crystalline matrix.
Step 2: Add Fragrance
Switch off the thermostat to shut off from heat completely. Add fragrance oil at 85°C (185°F), using 6–10% fragrance load by weight. Stir continuously for 2 minutes to ensure complete binding.
Step 3: Cool & Pour
Allow the mixture to cool naturally to 50°C–55°C (122°F–131°F). Pour slowly into pre‑warmed, pre‑wicked containers to reduce air pockets and shrinkage cavities.
Step 4: Cure
Let candles rest in a stable environment at 20–22°C for 1–2 weeks. This curing period allows the wax to fully stabilize and enhances the final hot throw.
